LiDS - Lifecycle Design Strategies

The LiDS-wheel or ‘Lifecycle Design Strategies’ is a list of sustainable design strategies. The list consists of a number of rules of thumb that can be used to support sustainable product development. The LiDS-wheel was contrived by the Delft University of Technology.

The rules are bundled in 8 strategies and follow the complete life cycle of a product. De exact environmental impact of this life cycle is calculated in a life cycle analysis.

• Opt for environmentally efficient production techniques


• Use the most efficient means of transport


• Reduce the environmental impact of the product during the usage phase
