LiDS - Lifecycle Design Strategies
The LiDS-wheel or ‘Lifecycle Design Strategies’ is a list of sustainable design strategies. The list consists of a number of rules of thumb that can be used to support sustainable product development. The LiDS-wheel was contrived by the Delft University of Technology.
The rules are bundled in 8 strategies and follow the complete life cycle of a product. De exact environmental impact of this life cycle is calculated in a life cycle analysis.
- Only use materials with a low environmental impact
- Reduce the number of materials used
- Opt for environmentally efficient production techniques
- Use the most efficient means of transport
- Reduce the environmental impact of the product during the usage phase
- Optimize the life span
- Optimize waste management
- Optimize the realization of the product function
